USA World University Games Teams Receive Daniels Fund Grant

Denver, CO – BTI Events announced today that its non-profit partner, the United States International University Sports Federation (US-IUSF), has received a $250,000 Daniels Fund grant to increase participation and support student-athletes in the World University Games.

The US-IUSF is the official representative and governing body for the United States in all International University Sports Federation (FISU) events, such as the World University Games. BTI Events is a comprehensive athletic event management company which oversees the administration, logistics, and information resources of U.S. collegiate athletes participating in the Games. BTI Events has been the managing partner of WUG for the US-IUSF since 2009.

The World University Games, internationally known as the “Universiade,” is an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by FISU. The Universiade is staged every two years in different host cities around the world. It is the second-largest amateur competition in the world, second only to the Olympic Games.

“The grant will enable our program to field the strongest team of college athletes as possible, ensuring ongoing success, exposure, and global recognition,” said Dr. Gary Cunningham, US-IUSF President.

“Bill Daniels had a life-long passion for sports and knew from experience that participation in sports helps to cultivate discipline, confidence, and sportsmanship,” said Linda Childears, Daniels Fund President and CEO. “Daniels Fund is pleased to support the US-IUSF and their efforts to promote development of international collegiate sports.” For more information about the Daniels Fund, please visit danielsfund.org.

“Our focus for this grant are student-athletes from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. We plan to increase representation of the 4-state region by providing financial backing to help offset costs associated with attending the World University Games,” added Cunningham.

“We are just getting ready for the Winter World University Games here in Granada, Spain. We have our largest winter team in history and many of the athletes would not have been able to attend this elite international competition, and enjoy tapas with student-athletes from all over the world, without the support of the Daniels Fund!” said Dr. Craig Jonas, Head of the USA Delegation for the 2015 Winter Games.

The Winter World University Games begin February 4th. Coverage of the Games will be on CBS Sports Network and online through wugusa.com. The Flag Bearer for the USA Team, Faye Gulini, is a Daniels Fund grant recipient from Utah, who trained and lived in Colorado. She is a snowboarding student-athlete who finished 4th in the Sochi Olympics.

Student-athletes with Daniels Fund support will also be chosen for the 2015 Summer World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea.
